Mary Robinson is a visual artist and educator living in Columbia, South Carolina. Her mixed media works are composed of repurposed cloth and paper, that she has dyed, printed, collaged, pieced and woven together. The colors, shapes, forms and textures reflect observed cycles and patterns in nature and human relation, while the process of repurposing and recomposing materials echoes Nature’s mode of regeneration and zero waste. She incorporates processes of weaving, mending, quilting and collage, while reflecting on an intention to heal our damaged environment and society.
Robinson’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Australia, Europe and Asia. She has attended residencies in Belgium, Finland and the U.S. In 2018, she was invited to Norway to create and permanently deposit handmade books in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Her work has been included in several museum exhibitions at the Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia, SC; the Marin County Museum of Art in Novato, CA; the Bristol Art Museum in Bristol, RI; and the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, AL. Her work is represented by Spalding Nix Fine Art in Atlanta, GA and Mike Brown Contemporary in Columbia, SC.
